Our Farm

Vredenhof is a farm of 27 hectares situated on Bredell Road between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. Our farm has been certified organic every year without interrruption since 2004, either by AFRISCO or SGS. Every year, AFRISCO inspects our farm and our farming procedures to make sure that we comply with European organic standards. Every year, AFRISCO analyzes our soil, water, compost, seeds, harvests and hygiene to give us and you, our customers, confidence that the food we grow and that you eat is genuinely organic and free of the toxins that contaminate much conventional food.

The foundation of a good organic farm is good soil. Healthy soil contains billions of micro-organisms that produce food for plants. If plants grow in good, rich soil, then they can produce the many vital nutrients that our bodies need and the exquisite flavours we enjoy. Our elder son, Oliver, produces huge amounts of compost, grows lots of green manure and implements an effective crop rotation programme so that the quality of our soil will continue to improve.

We grow about fifty different herbs, fruits and vegetables and we produce unusual items that make our farm unique. We buy organic seeds and produce our own organic seeds. We sow and harvest all year round. We want our farm to be a special place where you, our customers, can find fresh food that is full of nutrition and flavour, and that will give you pleasure, health and vitality.
