VECO enables and supports smallholder farmers to take up their role in rural poverty alleviation and to contribute to feeding a growing world population in an sustainable way.
In January 2014 VECO Vietnam embarked on the new six-year ‘Mekong Programme’. This implies the scaling up of our programme and activities: VECO Vietnam now focuses on Vietnam and the wider Mekong region (Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Yunnan Province, China). The Vietnam-based Regional Program will support smallholder farmers across the region that produce tea, rice and fruits & vegetables in a sustainable way, with a specific focus on improving the business capacities of farmer organisations. We also work with private actors to develop business models that include smallholder farmers in their sourcing policies, and with consumers to raise their awareness on sustainable and safe produce.
