Hello from North Star Farms, the home of "Organically Grown Prairie Produce." North Star Farms, owned and operated by Marvin and Ilene Baker, is an innovative operation in north-central North Dakota, growing certified organic produce for its shareholders and farmers' markets.

Vision Statement
North Star Farms passionately grows certified organic produce for the health of the community and this Earth while providing excellence in our service. We will leave a legacy by sharing our organic farming knowlege with others.

Community Supported Agriculture
We're proud to announce that the 2017 season will be our ninth year of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). This will also be the fourth consecutive year that we will have returned to North Prairie Farmers' Market in Minot as a full vendor. Our CSA will serve the Minot Air Force Base, the city of Minot and Kenmare. Shareholders receive locally grown, certified organic produce each week throughout the season. Partner with Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture (ECH)
In 2008, North Star Farms was named a private sector partner with the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture at Dakota College in Bottineau. Nine years later the farm remains a demonstration site for the production of organic and locally grown produce in western North Dakota. We appreciate working with the ECH on research as this segment of North Dakota agriculture continues to rapidly expand. ECH presented a $20,000 grant to North Star Farms in 2009 to fund the building of our passive solar greenhouse, the first-of-its-kind in North Dakota and one of only two on the northern Great Plains. It became operational on May 28, 2011. The 2012 season was our first opportunity to grow all our own transplants in the greenhouse. We also grow transplants for ECH, the Farm Breeding Club and for public use.

Research Site
North Star Farms continues to be blessed with research opportunities that continued in 2016. The farm was one of 10 onion and lettuce trial sites in North Dakota and Montana through the Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society's Farm Breeding Club. The data demonstrates which varieties of onions and lettuce are most likely to thrive in North Dakota, produce the most nutrition and provide the best marketing appeal. The Sedona (yellow) and Cabernet (red) onions that we've grown several years, show a lot of promise among the 10 trials of onions, respectively. Our intent in 2017 is to grow and market certified organic peanuts, following a successful attempt at cotton in 2014, which will continue this year thanks to more than 300 seeds we saved from our 2016 crop.
